Using Warm Tones for Flooring in Your Home This Autumn
There’s something about autumn that makes you want your home to feel a bit more cosy. The evenings get darker, the heating goes on and the blankets come back out. It’s also the time of year when you start noticing which rooms feel a bit colder or more bare. Changing your flooring can make a big difference and warm shades such as honey, caramel, beige, brown and terracotta can make a room feel more inviting without going overboard with autumn decorations.
Warm Carpets for Autumn
There’s nothing quite like a soft carpet under your feet on a chilly morning but rather than choosing a cool grey, have a look at warmer shades like oatmeal, beige, taupe, biscuit or light brown. They’re easy to work with and won’t look out of place once autumn is over. If you like a bit of texture, Berber and natural-looking carpet styles are worth thinking about too, as they can add some interest without needing a bold colour.
Bring Some Warmth in With Laminate
Laminate flooring is a good choice if you like the look of wood but want something that’s easy to look after. For an autumn-inspired room, warm oak, honey, caramel and chestnut colours are all worth a look. Warm wood tones also work nicely with cream walls, green paint, wooden furniture and plenty of soft furnishings. If you want to make a bit more of a feature of the floor, herringbone laminate is another option. It will give you that traditional parquet-style appearance without having to go down the solid wood route.
Warm Up Kitchens and Hallways With Vinyl
Vinyl flooring is good for rooms where life can get a bit messy. Kitchens, hallways and bathrooms are all busy with muddy shoes and the possibility of spills, so having a floor that’s easy to clean is a positive. Wood-effect vinyl in warm oak and brown shades can make a kitchen feel less stark, and patterned vinyl is a good option if you fancy something a little different. Terracotta, cream, green and brown patterns can all work well with an autumn colour scheme.
Finish Off Your Autumn Look
You don’t need to redecorate the whole house to make it feel more autumnal, but you can start with the floor and go from there. Colours like rust, mustard, olive green and deep brown are easy ways to bring a bit of autumn into the room, and because warm flooring works all year round, you won’t be left wondering what to do with it when spring comes around.
